About Queer Writers of Color (QWOC)
The Queer Writers of Color Workshop is a dedicated, affirming, and generative space created exclusively for Queer writers who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).
Our Guiding Philosophy: Queer Race Pedagogy
We believe that our intersectional identities—queerness and color—are profound sources of literary power and innovation. Our entire practice is guided by Queer Race Pedagogy, a critical framework that compels us to examine how race and sexuality intersect in craft and critique, challenging the normative expectations of the mainstream literary world.
Our Mission: Lineage, Craft, and Future
We foster the creative development and professional success of our members by:
Honoring Our Ancestors: We actively recognize and study the literary and personal paths forged by the Queer Writers of Color who came before us, connecting our present work to a powerful, enduring lineage.
Centering Our Voices: Providing a focused environment where your unique experiences are understood, valued, and prioritized without being subject to the "White Gaze."
Mastering the Craft through Innovation: Hosting weekly workshops that strengthen technique while celebrating the right to refuse traditional forms, embrace non-linearity, and innovate structure as acts of political and literary liberation.
Preparing for Publication: Curating resources, templates, and accountability structures, including dedicated submission days, to move polished work out of the workshop and into the world.
We are a community committed to challenging literary norms, celebrating our histories, and building a powerful literary future together. Join us for $20 per month to find the accountability, critique, and fellowship you need to make your most necessary work.
Monthly membership dues go towards venue rentals for weekly meetings and events, drinks, and more. This breaks down to $5 a week.
